Anderson exit leaves Burnett flying the flag
Darren Burnett is the lone Scot left in contention as the Just World Indoor Singles Championship reaches the quarter-final stages at Potters Resort today, writes Anne Dunwoodie.
In the concluding second round match last night, 2013 champion Stewart Anderson was counted out in an engrossing game by Norwich wildcard Wayne Willgress 9-9, 13-6.
Anderson scored a double on the last end of the first set to share the set at 9-9. In the second he held a 6-2 lead and was in control but Willgress hit a rich vein of form. He scored back-toback full house counts of four then nailed the jack in the ditch to count a treble and put the result beyond doubt at 13-6 with an end to spare to go through by one and a half sets to a half.
The holder in 2014, Burnett faces Jason Greenslade from Wales, who ended the reign of Paul Foster.
Katherine Rednall from Ipswich retained the Ladies World Matchplay title yesterday, turning in a sublime performance to crush Rebecca Field 13-3, 13-6.
