Developer drives ahead with vehicle charging aid

-

Housebuilder Springfield Properties is powering ahead with installing cabling for electric car charging points in new houses, saying it is one of the first firms of its kind in the UK to make this standard in all future new-build properties.

The developer, which has offices in Elgin and Larbert and last year floated on London’s Alternative Investment Market, will incorporate 7 kilowatt cabling to the most practical point in the home, letting homebuyers easily install a home charge point.

Initial beneficiaries include Bertha Park, the 3,000-home site planned for the outskirts of Perth. It is located near the A9, where the Scottish Government plans to create Scotland’s first Electric Highway.

Springfield chief executive Innes Smith said: “We wanted to make it as easy as possible for our customers to go electric.” The move was also welcomed by Scottish transport secretary Humza Yousaf, with Scotland having pledged that by 2032 all new vehicles sold will be electric.
