Requiem

This promising six-part psychologi­cal thriller for the BBC and Netflix tells the story of Matilda Gray, a successful cellist about to embark on a concert tour of New York, whose world is turned upside down when her mother inexplicab­ly commits suicide.

Grief stricken, Matilda, played by Lydia Wilson, finds a box of items on her deceased mother’s bed relating to Carys Howell, a young girl who went missing from a small Welsh village more than 20 years ago.

Unable to make sense of the find, Matilda and her accompanis­t Hal (Joel Fry) travel to Penllynith to investigat­e whether her mother’s suicide could be related to Carys’s disappeara­nce...

Nigel Slater’s Middle East

In a brand new three-part series Nigel Slater embarks on a Middle Eastern food adventure, exploring some of the oldest and grandest cuisines in the world. His first stop, Lebanon, exemplifie­s Levantine cuisine but is also influenced by its position on the Mediterran­ean. The flavours, colours and fragrances of the region have travelled the globe, but Nigel sets out to eat and cook with the people who make the dishes every day – home cooks. In the first episode, Nigel is in the capital Beirut at the end of Ramadan, where he is invited to celebrate Eid with a local family, before travelling west to the Beqaa Valley close to the Syrian border and South to Nabatieh near Israel.

The latest twist on the singing talent show sees a singer or band perform in front of a panel of 100 music experts. If any of the 100 like what they hear they can stand up and join in. The greater the number that join in, the higher the act’s score and the bigger the chance to land the series prize of £50,000.

Expect lots of anthemic singalong tracks in the six-part show hosted by comedian Rob Beckett, with former Spice Girl Geri Horner leading the 100 and offering advice and encouragem­ent to the performers.

Two Doors Down

The good folk of Latimer Crescent reconvene for the third series of the knockabout comedy, which features a rollcall of Scottish talent, including Doon Mackichan, Elaine C Smith, Alex Norton and Jonathan Watson.

In the first of six episodes, it’s Burns Night, and chaos is on the menu.

OUTDOORS Britain’s Favourite Walks: Top 100

This new two-and-a-half-hour special for STV pulls on its hiking boots for a countdown of Britain’s favourite walks – featuring locations from the West Highland Way to the Ridgeway and almost everywhere in between.

Presented by Julia Bradbury and Ore Oduba, the programme showcases the finest rambles, scrambles and ambles across the countrysid­e and through cities. Famous faces including Cath Tyldesley, Ade Edmondson, Katherine Kelly, Larry Lamb, Janet Street Porter and Robert Bathurst hit the trails to reveal their own favourite walks, which feature in the countdown.

In 2012, Trevor Mcdonald visited Indiana State Prison’s death row. Five years on, he returns to find that the prison has built a new death chamber. It could be his last chance to speak to the condemned men he has been unable to forget, including Ronald Sanford, who killed two elderly women when he was just 13. ■
