An amateur theatre company has been told it cannot perform a stage version of BBC sitcom Are You Being Served? after it was deemed “demeaning to women and outdated”. It’s not as if it’s an unknown quantity. Anyone attending a stage version of “Are You Being Served?” knows exactly what they’re going to get, and would likely be extremely disappointed if

the innuendo, misogyny and stereotyping was missing.

If you find it offensive don’t go to the theatre to see it. I find the show hilarious so would go. Am I being discriminated against. So fed up with the pc brigade.

Personally, I thought this was one of the most stupid comedies ever shown on the BBC and I gave up watching it. It was outdated before it was shown! However, banning it seems completely OTT. If this amateur company want to put it on and people are prepared to pay to see it – well, why shouldn’t they?

“Are you being served?” was one of the funniest and wittiest comedies of its time, which parodied pretty much the whole social spectrum in the UK in the 70’s and 80’s without fear of recrimination or backlash.
