The organisation representing governing bodies of sports in Scotland is to be given £70,000 for work on equality and participation.

The 2018-19 funding was allocated to the Scottish Sports Association (SSA) following a meeting with sport minister Aileen Campbell.

There were concerns over the future of the organisation after it was reported its governmentfundingwastobecut. MSPS from across Holyrood’s opposition parties signed a parliamentary motion objecting to the removal of financial support.

Ms Campbell recently met with the SSA and representatives of the Parliament’s crossparty group on sport to discuss how to develop a “sustainable future for the organisation”.

She said: “I have now identified an additional £70,000 to invest in the SSA to improve representation and participation in sport.

“This new funding will deliv- er specific outcomes from the SSA such as boosting female and minority ethnic representation on the boards of sport governing bodies and to provide direct support to our Women and Girls advisory board.

“The SSA will also look at the availability and accessibility of sports provision within local authorities to ensure we are doing all we can to improve participation even further ... as we work to create the active, healthier Scotland that we all want.”
