Burness Paull technology lawyer singled out as ‘hot’ property

- By SCOTT REID

One of the leading lights in Scotland’s burgeoning tech‑ nology sector has been named in a list of the UK’S 100 most talented and innovative legal minds.

Callum Sinclair, head of technology at legal firm Bur‑ ness Paull, was one of only two Scottish‑based lawyers included in the Hot 100 2018 rankings. He was among just eight “disruptors” on the list, which is produced annually by The Lawyer magazine.

Sinclair, who joined the firm in May 2016 from DLA Piper, is an expert in all aspects of technology law, from enter‑ prise cloud and IT sourcing to emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence and blockchain. He has acted for some of the world’s larg‑ est technology businesses on both the buy and supply side and is a key player in fintech north of the Border.

The Lawyer Hot 100 citation notes: “Sinclair has gone into battle to bring topics such as blockchain and artificial intelligence into the lexicon of even the staunchest tradi‑ tionalists… in the process, he has opened doors the firm would not even have knocked on before.”

Peter Lawson, head of corpo‑ rate at Burness Paull, which employs more than 480 peo‑ ple, including 65 partners, said: “Callum is an outstand‑ ing lawyer who has chal‑ lenged us all to think more creatively about how we use technology in the business. We are delighted that he has been given this recognition.”
