Barrie’s cattle group’s new head
Having fulfilled their promise to “think long and hard” before appointing a new chief executive, the Aberdeen Angus Cattle Society yesterday announced the position had been filled – eleven months after the previous incumbent left the position.
The new chief executive is Barrie Turner who, the society stated, has had a wide range of experience across many commercial sectors, including agriculture.
Turner’s most recent role was as international sales manager for the snacks division at Pasta Foods Ltd., He has also held several senior roles in a number of industries including catering and hospitality, food and drink and agriculture, and holds a National Diploma in Agriculture from Askham Bryan College of Agriculture. 0 Barrie Turner will head Aberdeen Angus Society Commenting on the appointment, the society’s senior vice president, Angela Mcgregor, said that a lot of deliberation and consideration had gone into the appointment. She said that after a period of change within the organisation – which had included the resignation of a number of key staff – the society had wanted take its time to ensure the correct person entered the role.
Turner, who will formally start in his role on February 5 – when the breed opens the bidding at the Stirling bull sales -said he would work in a way which ensured he was always “open and accessible and that he would take a “hands-on” approach to the job. l One of Scotland’s leading livestock auctioneers, Lawrie & Symington – currently in its 150th year – has appointed a new finance director to oversee the business’s £3.25 million turnover.
Lanark-born Chris Orr, a chartered accountant with over ten years’ experience working in global financial services, joins the company from Tesco Bank.
During spell with accountants Ernst & Young, Orr had been seconded to manage the multi-million-pound budget during the 2014 Commonwealth Games.
Hamish Mccall, managing director of Lawrie & Symington, said Orr brought a wide experience, including that of foreign and global markets.
