#ABORTION

The Irish government will hold a referendum in May or June on whether to change the country’s near-total ban on abortion. It’s currently prohibited by the Eighth Amendment of the Irish constitution. Irish Taoiseach @ campaignforleo tweeted: “If the referendum is passed, a doctor-led, safe and legal system for the termination of pregnancy will be introduced. Safe, legal & rare. No longer an article in the Constitution, but rather a private & personal matter for women & doctors.” @jodiekins22 said: “I’m not Irish but please do this. It’s a neanderthal approach to think the state has an opinion or any bearing on a woman’s, and man’s, right to decide whether they’re ready to be parents.” @Colmgrimes1 added: “I am conflicted to say the least about it, but when it all boils down, it should be the person, ie the woman, who has the final say over her own body. Still, understand the opposite view here, but if given a black and white decision, I will vote along those lines.” @illonaduffy said: “If passed it needs a safe and accessible system. This can’t be a routine 10 min GP appointment. It will require 1) time to counsel and discuss all options 2) accurate confirmation of gestation (i.e. no yellow pack pregnancy tests) 3) access to counselling and ultrasound also. This will require funding.”

I am so grateful that our young people will see this film and their minds will be transformed.” @kumailn added: “Black Panther. So very good. I cheered and laughed and pumped my fist. I’ve never seen a super hero movie like it. Everybody involved with it deserves a medal and a high five.”
