Man linked to cocaine smuggling plot is jailed

- By STUART MACDONALD

A man involved in a plot to smuggle thousands of pounds worth of cocaine into a Lanarkshire maximum security prison has been jailed for two years.

David Guy, 31, was linked to a package of drugs discovered in the grounds of Shotts Prison, which houses some of the country’s most dangerous offenders.

Prison officers found the package lying between the prison’s grounds in September 2015 and carried out forensic analysis.

Guy’s DNA was found on a polythene bag containing cocaine, which would have been worth up to £5,000 inside the prison.

Guy, from Airdrie, went on trial at Hamilton Sheriff Court and denied being connected to the supply of drugs. However, a jury took less than half an hour to convict him of the cocaine charges. Charges he was also involved in supplying heroin and other drugs were not proven.
