Scotland are still waiting for their first away win in the Women’s Six Nations since 2006 after coming up just short in Colwyn Bay last night.

A far heavier defeat looked on the cards at times in the first half as a powerful Welsh pack took control, but two tries from Chloe Rollie and another from Jade Konkel gave Shade Munro’s side the slight consolation of a losing bonus point.

Jodie Evans missed an early penalty for Wales, who then took the lead after ten minutes through left-winger Jess Kavanagh-evans after the pack had pushed deep into Scots territory. Evans missed the conversion attempt, but was on target with a penalty after 26 minutes to put her team 8-0 up.

That deficit would not have been too bad for Scotland to take into the second half, but they then conceded a second try deep into time added on. A Welsh scrum did much of the damage and a quick tap penalty put Hannah Bluck in at the right corner.

Scotland got off the mark within three minutes of the restart when Rollie forced her way over the line but Wales hit back quickly, with centre Kerin Lake scoring an easy try after the pack had again forced their way right up to the line.

Rollie scored again to cut the gap to 18-10, and when Konkel ploughed over for a try converted by Sarah Law there was just a point in it.

But Wales ended the game strongly and, with five minutes left, Jodie Rettie was sinbinned for collapsing a maul. That advantage allowed the home team to finish the game on top and claim a narrow but deserved victory.
