Willey and Dawson give England edge
England restricted the Prime Minister’s XI to 136 for eight in the first innings of their Twenty20 warmup match at Canberra’s Manuka Oval.
The tourists turned in a strong performance in the field as they tuned up for the Trans-tasman triseries against Australia and New Zealand, making good on Eoin Morgan’s decision to bowl first.
Left-arm duo David Willey and Liam Dawson enjoyed most success, taking three wickets apiece as an experienced PM’S side struggled for fluency. Peter Handscomb’s 43 was their only knock of note, but his powerful innings ended when Dawson bowled him middle-and-leg.
Sam Billings took a brilliant catch on the boundary to see off James Faulkner, flicking it up as he teetered on the rope then gathering as he leapt back inside.
Jason Roy (stiff back) was a surprise absentee from the England side, allowing Sam Curran to make his first appearance in senior colours.
