The Bulger Killers: Was Justice Done?/james Bulger: A Mother’s Story
Twenty five years after the abduction and murder of James Bulger by two ten-year-old boys, Robert Thompson and Jon Venables, two programmes revisit the events and issues surrounding the troubling case which horrified the nation. For Channel 4, The Bulger Killers brings together some of the key people involved, including police, politicians, lawyers and journalists to ask two key questions. Did the criminal justice system fail the Bulger family by being too lenient on the murderers, or did it fail two young boys unable to fully understand the consequences of their actions?
Meanwhile, James Bulger: A Mother’s Story on ITV sees veteran broadcaster Trevor Mcdonald interview Denise Fergus, who shares her memories of her son and reveals the extent of the pain and anguish she still lives with and her work to help victims of crime through the James Bulger Memorial Trust. Monday, Channel 4, 9pm; Thursday, STV, 9pm
