Scots beaten by Blitzboks
Southafricaendedscotland’s hopes of Cup glory at the New Zealand leg of the HSBC World Rugby 7s Series tournament, with the Blitzboks winning their quarter-final clash in Hamilton yesterday.
John Dalziel’s side had made it through to the last eight on the back of a 26-14 victory over France on Saturday – a result they desperately needed in order to progress following defeats by Argentina (19-14) and hosts New Zealand (24-5) earlier in the day.
But yesterday’s quarterfinal with South Africa was a one-sided affair. The reigning World Sevens champions were dominant throughout and romped home 22-0.
The Scots were then drawn against Kenya in a battle for fifth place but lost 33-19 despite tries from Jack Cuthbert, Scott Riddell and Max Mcfarland.
Fiji won the Cup thanks to a 24-17 win over South Africa in the final at Waikato Stadium.
