Rare spider is found at estate near Loch Ness
A rare money spider has been found in Glenmoriston near Loch Ness in a discovery described by experts as “spectacular”.
Surveys at Trees for Life’s Dundreggan Conservation Estate found an adult male of the species.
The rare arachnid located at the native forest restoration site in Invernessshire is the first record of the spider west of the Great Glen for more than 25 years.
Little is known about the spider’s habits. The few recent records of the species in Scotland were all from south of the Great Glen.
