Paying their respects: Islanders gather at grave of last US soldier buried there after U-boat attack
BLANTYRE
Members of the Islay community attend a 100th anniversary service at Kilnaughton Commonwealth War Graves Commission Cemetery at the grave of Private Roy Muncaster, the only US soldier still buried on the island. Many of the dead from the SS Tuscania were temporarily buried at Kilnaughton following the ship’s sinking by a German U-boat while it transported American troops to Europe.
