So Stagecoach and Virgin together cannot handle even basic arithmetic and the Secretary of State for Transport has now decided to end the current East Coast Rail franchise “in the very near future”.

It is also reported that the service may be taken into public ownership. Am I right in thinking that this accelerated ending of the franchise is the result of transport secretary Chris Grayling having just discovered some unopened tins of silver paint and some “East Coast” transfers in the bowels of his Department ? Let us hope so.
