Bins left unemptied due to ‘icy weather’

- By ARTHUR VUNDLA

A council has been ridiculed for claiming wheelie bins could not be emptied because of “the icy weather”.

Residents in the Renfrewshire Council area were told workers were unable to carry out collections earlier this week because waste inside bins had frozen.

Temperatures across the Renfrewshire council area had fallen to as low as -4C, although climbed to 2.3C on Wednesday afternoon.

Residents were told by the local authority that they would have to wait until the next scheduled date, which is two weeks’ time.

The council posted on Facebook: “Brown bins could not be collected today as their contents froze in the icy weather.

“They will now be collected on the next scheduled date. Apologies for any inconvenience.”

Residents from the area described the post as a “wind up” while others joked they would not pay council tax “this week”.

One of the posts said: “I have heard some belters, but this one is a cracker.”

Another added: “Lol still waiting on mine being emptied from over 1 month ago, also still waiting on my disposable bags, that’s been 6 months now!”

One post said: “This has to be a joke right??? By the time it reaches its destination it will be thawed out”.
