Campbell is banned for seven games

- By ALAN TEMPLE

Arbroath manager Dick Campbell has been given a seven-game touchline ban after storming on to the pitch to confront the referee during his side’s 4-1 Scottish Cup defeat by Ayr United.

The 64-year-old pleaded guilty to a charge of misconduct at an SFA hearing and will be confined to the stands for Arbroath’s next five fixtures.

A further two-match ban has been suspended until the end of next season and will be applied in the event of another offence.

Campbell took to the field to deliver a remarkable dressing down to referee Mike Roncone during the loss to Ayr on 20 January, having been incensed by the official’s failure to award a penalty in Arbroath’s favour.

He subsequently apologised for his actions, which swiftly became an internet sensation, and conceded he was “embarrassed” by the scene caused.

It is understood Campbell, who was named League 1 manager of the month for January this week, will not appeal the verdict.
