Temperatures forecast to plunge to -6C in Scotland

- By RUSSELL JACKSON

Temperatures are expected to plummet again today, with the mercury set to dip below freezing north of the Border.

Scotland could see lows of minus 6C (21.2F) and a widespread frost this morning.

More snow is also expected in western parts during the day.

There could be some respite, however, with milder temperatures set to return midweek.

Warnings of plunging temperatures came after snow showers yesterday caused disruption on roads in western Scotland.

The wintry weather arrived there and in western England and Northern Ireland overnight, as the Met Office issued warnings for snow and ice.

Fresh alerts have also been issued for the rest of the UK.

Putting out a yellow warning for ice, which is in place until 10am today and covers areas including London, Wales and the east of England, the Met Office said: “Icy patches are expected to form on untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths on Sunday night and Monday morning.”
