Bifab redundancy notices issued
Union leaders last night said hundreds of workers at Bifab marine engineering yards were to be made redundant.
Management at the yards told trade unions yesterday they would be issuing redundancy notices to the core workforce today, giving 45 days notice of the closure of the yards.
Unions say 260 jobs are to go by early summer, with the possible closure of the yards completely by the end of June.
Unite leaders said the prospect of closure filled them “with dismay”.
