Ian Blackford has confirmed he will not stand in the contest to become depute leader of the SNP. The MP for Skye, leader of the party’s Westminster group, was considered an early favourite for the job. @Ianblackfordmp said: “I have chosen not to allow my name to go forward for nomination for SNP depute leader to concentrate on my role as a Highland MP and SNP Westminster leader. I look forward to working with the new depute leader” @nickeardleybbc observed; “Ian Blackford not running for @thesnp deputy leader. But around half a dozen others standing or thinking about it at the moment” @belle141987 commented; “I thought you’d be the frontrunner but think you’ve made the right decision. Your constituents will appreciate that” @Naeborder opined: “I think the ‘senior SNP figures’ have made it clear that he’s unlikely to win, so not much to gain and a lot to lose by running.”
#M8PROTEST
A proposal by proindependence campaigners to ‘populate’ bridges and footpaths along the M8 motorway as part of an organised protest has drawn a mixed response. @Yesm8scotland said: The #Yesm8 event is about peacefully populating all the foot bridges over the M8 from 11am to 1pm on the 7th April between Greenock & Edinburgh. It’s about being seen. It’s not about traffic disruption. It’s about raising awareness and letting people know #Yes is still here” @solerolady offered: “This #Yesm8 stuff is a wind up. Right? I mean it’s not as if we are the closest we’ve ever been and not acting like flag-waving numpties on the busiest road in Scotland couldn’t help” @supertim74 added: “This proposed #yesm8 is ridiculous, reckless and self-defeating folly, which will actually set back the independence movement, not promote it. I urge its organisers to think again.”
#ALANPARTRIDGE
Steve Coogan’s ever-popular fictional BBC presenter will return to primetime television later this year with a new series. @Jake_kanter commented; “His new BBC1 series begins filming today. The premise: Partridge will be parachuted in as the temporary host of a BBC teatime programme, which sounds suspiciously like The One Show.”
