Talking shop: Shopping centre teaches children about careers in retail
The Avenue Shopping Centre in Newton Mearns has launched what it says is the first workplace initiative of its kind educating primary schoolchildren regarding the benefits of working in retail. The venture is backed by the CBI, and retailers taking part include Asda, Marks & Spencer, and Specsavers. CBI Scotland director Tracy Black said such programmes should be celebrated “for taking a lead in familiarising children with working life and helping them to develop the skills they’ll need for a successful career”.
