Campbell on spot as Scots beat Spain

-

Scotland’s Under-17 side defeated Spain 2-1 yesterday in the second of three friendly matches during their week in Marbella.

The SFA’S performance director Malky Mackay witnessed Aberdeen’s Dean Campbell scoring both goals from the penalty spot as the Scots followed up Saturday’s 1-0 victory over Poland.

The young Scots will complete their week by playing against France tomorrow – the last game in their build-up to the Euros Elite Round stage next month, when they will face Germany, hosts Greece and Norway, the final hurdle in their bid to reach the finals in England. Team coach Brian Mclaughlin said: “We are over here to test ourselves against the best in Poland, Spain and France. That’s why we took on these challenging games.

“So to come out here and play possession football against Spain, on their own pitch, and win gives the boys a terrific boost going into the Elite Round.

“It gives them added belief in the way they are playing.”
