Persimmon boss to give to charity

The boss of housebuilder Persimmon has moved to deflect stinging criticism of his hefty pay package by handing over a slice of his £100 million bonus to charity.

Jeff Fairburn stressed yesterday that he always intended to give a “substantial amount” of his triple-digit award to charity. The underfire chief executive said he will now set up a private charitable trust.
