Boy, 12, rescued from estuary mud

A 12-year-old boy was rescued after he was stuck for more than an hour up to his waist in mud yesterday.

Coastguards, firefighters, police and paramedics fought to free the boy at the Solway yachting village at Kippford, near Dalbeattie.

The boy had been out fishing when he became stuck in the mud in the River Urr estuary at Rough Firth.

Coastguards from Portling and Annan were rushed to the scene along with firefighters from Dalbeattie, Castle Douglas and Dumfries.
