IT’S ALL IN THE NAME

-

Use of the word “manbag” has caused consternation among the men in The Scotsman office, who insist a bag is just a bag, whether it is a man or woman who carries it. There ‘s even a suggestion that the phrase is sexist – why do we not call ours “womanbags”?

However, there is no doubt that the concept of a man carrying a sort of handbag – as opposed to a rucksack or a sports bag – has become more popular.

“I just don’t like the term, though,” complains one office manbag toter. “It makes me feel tarnished, somehow.”

Yet, our manbag fans insist that the product solves all manner of transportation conundrum, with one colleague going as far to claim that his is helping the world’s plastic waste problem.

“When I buy my lunch, it fits in my manbag,” he explains. “So I don’t ever need a plastic bag.” Manbags. Saving the planet one bag at a time.
