ARGYLL FESTIVAL OF PERFORMANCE CANCELLED
The organisers of the Argyll festival of performance have announced this week that the event has been cancelled.
Less than one month ago, event director Bill Telford talked about the ambitious plans for the festival, which was due to be held at Inveraray Castle in June this year.
Iconic cars such as the Lotus 18 raced by Innes Ireland and a one-off Lotus 32B built for Scots racing legend Jim Clark were amongst vehicles set to make an appearance at the show.
But an announcement this week confirmed that the event would now not go ahead.
The statement on their websiteread :“on behalf of festival organisers Argyll Motor Club (E cos se) ltd, it is with the deep est of regret to announce that Argyll Festival of Performance scheduled for 2nd & 3rd June 2018 is now cancelled.
“There are a number of circumstances that have come together which combined have made it unachievable for us to deliver the festival in the format that we had wished to and also to meet the expectations of our partners, exhibitors, participants and visitors.
“We would like to thank all those who have shown their support for the festival and to apologise for any inconvenience this cancellation may cause.”
Originally billed as the start of a three-year celebration of motoring, tickets for the event went on sale in November, with adult tickets costing £40.
A spokesperson for the event confirmed that anyone who had purchased tickets has been contacted and issued with a refund.
They also confirmed that there are “no plans for an event next year”.
