Theresa May is to hold talks with Angela Merkel amid growing impatience at the UK’S reluctance to spell out its goals in the Brexit negotiations.

@agapanthus49 said: “While Theresa the appeaser rushes off to Germany to meet up with Merkel we’re left thinking, what is she going to give away this time? EU shut her out of Brexit talks to conspire against us behind closed doors so just offer them an ultimatum to talk trade or we go to WTO.”

@J_amesp wrote: “I’ll spell this out as a Brexit timeline, as people still seem confused: March: no transition deal due to UK incompetence. June: internationals finalise departures. October: no free trade agreement due to UK incompetence. January: EU 27 ratifies no deal exit. March ‘19: chaos.”

The Scotsman revealed that rail passengers faced further overcrowding, with Scotrail set to halve carriages on some of their busiest trains.

@Sproutheaduk wrote: “To the useless owners of @Scotrail. Why do you keep putting up the prices and never improve the facilities? Half the charging points don’t work and your ‘wifi’ is absolutely gash. Do your Dutch trains offer a service just as rubbish as this?”

@erinrussell53 said: “10.44 train Stirling to Glasgow – notaseattobehad, kidsand buggies standing in aisles... who could have anticipated it being busier than usual during school holidays?!”

@hondo1650 added: “Leave the car they say. Take public transport they say. Buses get taken off routes or stopped early, now half a carriage on trains, when they are running. Shambles”

#MCLEISH

Alex Mcleish was confirmed as the new manager of the Scotland national team.

@paddypower joked: “‘We went through a rigorous process,’ said a spokesman for the SFA. ‘We spoke to Michael O’neill, Malky Mackay, the Krankies & that woman who calls her kids disgusting for not flushing the toilet, but Alex was always our first choice’.”

@pieandbov tweeted: “Genuinely wish Mcleish well. The glaring issue in central defence that has cost us so dearly is there to be fixed now with promising options like Hendry, Lindsay, Mccrorie, Mckenna, Porteous & Souttar. Have to find system that accommodates both Tierney and Robertson starting.”
