Annual meal deal

-

North Lanarkshire Council has announced plans to provide school children from low-income families with school meals for 365 days of the year. The “Food 365” programme aims to tackle “holiday hunger” suffered by children during school breaks.

Great idea in principle but what if parents can’t get the children to the centres that are providing the meals? Surely a better way to pilot this would be to produce vouchers to be used at supermarkets/local shops (Tesco/local Co-ops) against food? Just like the healthy start grants?

Ehmm – isn’t this what benefits or tax credits are for?
