For a look at the realities of police work, you can’t do much better than Channel 4’s returning series about the cases coming through the doors of Luton police station.

In the first episode, a married man enters the station with an envelope containing compromising photographs and a blackmail demand for £1,000. The investigation soon reveals a fellow police officer is the prime suspect. ■
