Sturgeon attacks May over Brexit security
Theresa May is leaving the UK’S security in jeopardy by putting the Tory party before the national interest, according to Nicola Sturgeon.
The First Minister accused the Tory leader of creating uncertainty in the post-brexit security landscape because of a lack of coherent policy.
Mrs May used a keynote speech to warn EU leaders not to block a deal on security after Brexit, insisting she wanted to maintain military, intelligence and counter-terrorism cooperation after the UK leaves the EU.
But Ms Sturgeon said: “It is astonishing that fully 20 months on from the EU referendum the UK Government is still struggling to spell out its plans for Brexit.
“That is a reflection of the infighting within the Tory party and of the weakness of the Prime Minister’s position – but it is inexcusable that party interest is being put ahead of the country’s interest.”
In a speech to top European and US officials, the Prime Minister said she wants a new partnership on security after Brexit takes place in just over a year.
