Smith licks his wounds as Trouten denies Rovers with late equaliser

-

Albion Rovers’ Alan Trouten struck in injury time to earn his side a share of the spoils at Cliftonhill in a 2-2 draw with leaders Raith Rovers.

Trouten opened the scoring for the home side on 11 minutes, but Ewan Murray equalised before half-time, and just when a late own goal by Jason Marr looked set to hand the Kirkcaldy men the win Trouten hit home an even later penalty.

Raith manager Barry Smith said: “We will have to lick our wounds and move on.”

Ayr pulled themselves to within six points of Raith by defeating East Fife 3-0 at Somerset Park.

Declan Mcdaid had the Honest Men winning by half-time and Lawrence Shankland added a solo effort before Alan Forrest converted a penalty.

Alloa remain third after a goalless draw with fourthplaced Arbroath at Gayfield where Wasps striker Kris Renton hit the post with a firsthalf header.

The visitors had to see out the last quarter of the game with ten men after Callum Smith was dismissed.

Forfar moved off bottom spot with a 5 – 1 success over Stranraer at Station Park. Matty Aitken hit a double within six minutes before Russell Dingwall and Greg Hurst also scored before the break. Dylan Easton made it five before Paul Woods grabbed a consolation.

Airdrie sent Queen’s Park bottom thanks to a 2-1 home success. David Brownlie’s header and Darryl Duffy’s penalty had the Diamonds two up after 25 minutes.

Visiting Adam Cummins curled home with four minutes left, but the Spiders could not find a late leveller. League 2 leaders Montrose battled back twice to earn a point in a 2-2 draw at Elgin and continue to hold a sixpoint advantage as a result. Brian Cameron’s well-struck effort put the hosts in front after nine minutes, before Gary Fraser headed an equaliser just before half-time.

Chris Mcleish edged Elgin ahead again on 57 minutes, then Martin Rennie restored parity when he nodded home 15 minutes from time.

Links Park manager Stewart Petrie said: “We lost 3-0 here earlier in the season so to come from behind and take a point home is not the worst result.”

Second-placed Peterhead also had to be content with a point after a 1-1 draw with Berwick Rangers at Balmoor. Home keeper Greg Fleming saved a Paul Willis penalty before Steven Thomson poked the Borderers in front ahead of the break. Rory Mcallister converted a spot-kick 14 minutes from time for the hosts, who have now not won in three outings.

Stirling Albion remain on the fringes of the title race after defeating visitors Annan 3-0. All the goals came in the second half, Ross Mcgeachie breaking the deadlock and Peter Macdonald hitting a double. Stenhousemuir kept up their chase with a 1-0 defeat of Edinburgh City at Ochilview where Mark Mcguigan struck early and the visitors hit the woodwork twice.

Clyde won for the fifth game in a row as bottom side Cowdenbeath were defeated 2-0 thanks to a second-half double by David Goodwillie, above, that included a penalty.
