A swell sight: Starlings swoop in murmuration above castle

-

0 A swooping mass of starlings were captured at dusk above Blenkinsopp Castle in Northumberland. The spectacular ‘murmuration’ was spotted despite experts estimating that the UK’S starling populations has fallen by more than 80 per cent in recent years. The decline is believed to be due to the loss of permanent pasture, increased use of farm chemicals and a shortage of food and nesting sites in many parts of the UK.
