Terracotta warrior theft angers China
An American has allegedly stolen the thumb from a terracotta warrior statue while on show at a Philadelphia museum in an incident that has angered Chinese authorities.
The 2,000-year-old statue is worth about £3.2 million and was one of ten on loan to the Franklin Institute. The Terracotta Army is one of China’s most important archaeological finds.
Michael Rohana, 24, was attending a pre-christmas party at the venue when he allegedly went through an unlocked door into the exhibition and committed the offence.
Chinese authorities want “severe punishment”.
