Man threw flare through window into moving taxi

A man has been given community service after endangerin­g a taxi driver and his passengers by throwing a lit smoke bomb through a car window.

Callum Torbet, 23, threw the flare from the window of a nearby taxi on 6 May last year on Atholl Street in Perth.

The flare struck driver David Cargill and filled his taxi with smoke.

Torbet admitted throwing the flare, but said it was out of panic that it had accidental­ly lit.

He was sentenced to carry out 180 hours unpaid work after the claim was rejected.
