Historic theatre revamp boosted by extra £1m

A council has approved additional grant funding of £1 million for the Citizens Theatre redevelopment project in Glasgow.

The historic theatre was formed in 1943. The structure’s £19.4m revamp will be the first comprehensive renovation in its 140-year history.

The funding sanctioned by Glasgow City Council yesterday brings the total support for the project from the authority to £5m.

The condition of the building has been assessed as a “risk to its long-term operation” by the council. Works are due to be completed in December 2020.
