- By SCOTT REID

Whirlwind Renewables has confirmed that work will start on a wind farm in Caithness following funding support from Clydesdale Bank.

Achlachan Wind Farm, which comprises five turbines, will be one of the first built under the UK government’s contracts for difference support mechanism. Site preparation work is due to start in a few weeks with full operations expected by October.

Annual energy production will be sufficient to power some 8,400 homes.

Keith Wilson, head of renewable energy at Clydesdale Bank, said: “This project is a notable achievement both for the onshore wind sector generally… and for the team at Whirlwind Renewables.”
