Friday, midday

Check into the Cordial Mogan Playa (doubles from £145, www. cordialres­ortholiday­s.com), an expansive four-star resort awash with pools and restaurant­s.

1:30pm

Enjoy lunch at the Cordial’s Fula restaurant, which overlooks the main pool. Kick off with garlic prawns and Canarian wrinkly potatoes, followed by a grilled fillet of local fish.

3pm

Stroll around Puerto Mogan appreciati­ng that it’s the most charming resort town on Gran Canaria. Walk over the wee canals, admire the yachts in the marina and check out the fishing harbour.

6:30pm

Enjoy a sundowner on the terrace at the Hotel de Puerto Mogan (www.hotelpuert­odemogan. com) overlookin­g the marina with a cocktail or the local beer, the refreshing Tropical.

8pm

It’s easy to see why Michelin rate Los Guayres at the Mogan Playa. Book a coveted seat on their terrace and settle in for their remarkable degustatio­n menu.

Saturday, 10am

Recline at the Marina Pool Bar (+34928 565 010). You can gaze out over the pool towards the fishing boats, working up an appetite over a chilled drink or a coffee.

Midday

Enjoy lunch at the Cofradia (tel: +34928 565 321), where the fruits of the labours of the local fishermen are grilled and fried. Snare a window or terrace seat for views back to town.

2:30pm

Head for a walk on the famous sand dunes of Maspalomas. Stroll along the Atlantic and then circle back.

4:30pm

Either enjoy one of the top notch spa treatments at the Seaside Palm Beach (www.hotel-palm-beach.co.uk), or a dip in the ocean.

7pm

Book dinner at Esencia at the Seaside Palm Beach. Dine al fresco under the palms and savour creative dishes and excellent Canarian wines.

Sunday, 9am
