What has made you proudest in the past 12 months?

I was proud on speech day last June when awarding prizes to the 2017 leavers as they graduated from their International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme. I was just as proud when their excellent exam results came out and when 88 per cent – including our youngest daughter - had achieved the university place of their choice. Although I am not the greatest fan of league tables because they tell only part of any school’s story, I was also delighted that the Sunday Times Parent Power table ranked us the top Sixth Form in Scotland for A Level/ IB results.

What is your favourite way to spend a Sunday afternoon?

My wife Nicola and I love walking our energetic working cocker spaniel at Tentsmuir Forest or on the West Sands in St Andrews. Michael Carslaw, has three daughters aged 19 to 24, who all attended St Leonards. His teaching subject is biology.
