Sport opens door to healthy lifestyle
Set in extensive grounds, Clifton Hall has excellent sports facilities where pupils can develop their individual and teamwork skills.
The school places importance on healthy and active lifestyles by allowing the pupils to take advantage of the swimming pool, sports hall and pavilion regularly.
In addition, the school prides itself on the sporting success of its numerous competitive teams.
Last year, two pupils took back silver and gold medals from the Edinburgh Schools Swimming Championship, while the boys’ rugby team won the Edinburgh Primary Association Rugby Competition 2017, defeating Dean Park Primary by four tries to two.
Other teams include hockey, athletics, cross-country, football, cricket and golf.
However, sport is also a key part of the school’s curriculum.
In the primary and lower senior schools, the curriculum offers swimming to all ages. This benefits the pupils physically and mentally, but the pupils also gain an insight to life-saving skills and can pass swimming badges.
All aspects of health and wellbeing are explored further during PE lessons when pupils learn about healthy eating and how to maintain a healthy lifestyle.
Pupils are all encouraged to try out a variety of activities to inspire a lifelong interest in physical activity.
They can continue sports outside the timetable by attending the school’s bi-annual ski trip as well as lunchtime and afterschool clubs, which include activities such as judo, modern dancing, football and golf.
