- By JAMIE BEATSON

Celtic footballer Leigh Griffiths appeared in court yesterday accused of speeding.

He spoke only to confirm his name at Dundee Justice of the Peace court before his trial was adjourned after his lawyer presented prosecutors with an 80-page document.

Griffiths, who also picked up a parking ticket, before attending court is accused of driving his Mercedes AMG C63 at 62mph in a 50mph zone in Dundee last summer. 0 Leigh Griffiths is accused of doing 62mph in a 50mph zone

Fiscal depute Alan Kempton said that “in the interests of justice” he needed an adjournment to assess the new defence evidence, which was handed to him only five minutes before the trial was due to start. JP Muhammad Khalid adjourned the case and ordered Griffiths to appear in court again on 21 May – just two days after the Scottish Cup final, where Celtic could complete a second successive treble if they reach the game.

The charge against Griffiths allege that on 3 June last year at Kingsway West, Dundee, near the Myrekirk roundabout, Griffiths drove at 62mph in a 50mph zone.
