Racecourse seized by local councillors
East Lothian councillors have seized control of Musselburgh Racecourse in a unanimous vote behind closed doors.
Members said the power grab was to protect the venue and saw them act on an independent review.
Partners Lothians Racing Syndicate accused them of “riding roughshod over legally binding provisions”. The move will see Musselburgh Joint Racing Committee scrapped after running the course for 15 years.
Musselburgh has been operating on a temporary licence from the British Horseracing Association.
