Keena hopes his scoring spree for Queen’s bodes well for his Hearts future

Hearts striker Aidan Keena reckons that scoring goals at Hampden for Queen’s Park is the perfect preparation for being involved with the Tynecastle first team next season.

The 18-year-old, who moved to Tynecastle from Irish club St Patrick’s Athletic last summer, has scored four times in four starts for the Spiders, and the Irishman believes that his spell in League 1 will prepare him to star for Hearts.

Keena said: “Playing at a firstteam level is more competitive than under-20s. Being at Hearts every day is great but I want to be playing and testing myself as much as I can. I have another two seasons at Hearts and this spell will help me get established there. I was in and around their first team just before I came out on loan, but hopefully I will progress quicker playing games here and be ready for their first team when I go back.

“I scored last Saturday against Forfar at Hampden. It is always good to score but my family were over from Ireland watching the game so that made it extra special. I thought it was going to be the match-winner as well but that was not how it turned out and we drew 2-2.

“Playing at such a big venue as Hampden is a terrific experience and will help me. You cannot look down on it and say it is only a League 1 match. It is terrific playing at Hampden even when the crowd is small.”
