Declined!

What have we come to when Cameron Wylie, the retired headteacher of George Heriot’s, one of Scotland’s most well-known schools, speaks of “declining Latin verbs” (“Teachers are losing heart, education needs radical rethink”, 1 March)?

It is nouns, Latin or otherwise, which are declined; verbs are conjugated.
