Hope strikes gold again as Murdoch secures a silver
Lucy Hope won her second gold medal of the meet, but Ross Murdoch had to settle for a silver last night at the Edinburgh International Swim Meet, incorporating the British Swimming Championships at the Royal Commonwealth Pool.
University of Edinburgh’s Hope backed up her 50 metres backstroke gold from Thursday with another in the 50m freestyle with a time of 25.69.
Like Murdoch she will be part of Team Scotland at the Commonwealth Games next month.
In the men’s 200m breaststroke final Murdoch, the 24-year-old from the University of Stirling who was fourth at last year’s World Championships, was beaten to top spot by James Wilby, who swam a time of 2:12.02. Hannah Miley picked up her second medal of the meet with a bronze in the women’s 200m IM final.
In the women’s 200m backstroke final two University of Edinburgh swimmers won gold and silver.
Lizzie Simmonds, who will represent England in Gold Coast, went to the top of the podium while Kathryn Greenslade, who will be with Wales in Australia, was second.
Stephen Milne, the Perth City swimmer, finished sixth in the men’s 400m freestyle final in 3:54.87, Jay Lelliott of the City of Sheffield winning gold.
The University of Edinburgh duo of Corrie Scott and Kara Hanlon were sixth and eighth respectively in the women’s 100m breaststroke final.
The men’s 100m backstroke final saw Chris Walker-hebborn of Bath University take gold while in the B final City of Glasgow swimmer Craig Mcnally finished top in 56.44.
