#STURGEON

On Peston on Sunday, after Liberal Democrat MP Jo Swinson made an argument for a statue of Margaret Thatcher to be erected in Parliament Square, Robert Peston asked Nicola Sturgeon if she backs the idea too. Ms Sturgeon replied: “Steady on.” @Vautrinjr said: “My new favourite expression is “Steady On.” Scottish First Minister just said that to the suggestion of Margaret Thatcher statues in Scotland.” @Kirstystricklan added: “Nicola Sturgeon says that women are not recognised for their achievements as much as men are but the legacy they leave behind for other women is more important than statues.” @joswinson said: “And after I was ever so even-handed calling for a statue of @ Nicolasturgeon in the same article too! ;-)”

#BANNISTER

Running legend Sir Roger Bannister has died aged 88. Bannister was the first person ever to run a mile in under four minutes, a landmark in sporting achievements. He went on to do pioneering work in neurology. @campbellclaret said: “Sir Roger Bannister RIP. Athletics equivalent of first man on moon. Lovely man. Charming even when @ schooltruth asked what his distance was!” @Mo_farah added: “I’m so sorry to hear the sad news about Roger Bannister. I met him several times throughout my career and he was always humble, supportive and encouraging. He was an inspiration to so many, being the first man to break the 4-minute mile. My thoughts are with his family and friends.” @Asimon67 said: “A British icon, a sporting legend, and an inspiration to many; a sad loss but he leaves a great legacy and will not be forgotten. RIP”

#TRUMP

Prime Minister Theresa May has allegedly told US President Donald Trump of her “deep concern” at his plan to introduce tariffs on steel and aluminium imports to the United States. @wistownomad said: “Wow Mrs May that “deep concern” will really get Trump shaking in his boots, try and be a wee bit more forthright in your views then you may be taken seriously.” @wlarge63 added: “’Her deep concern’? Well that’s going to make a difference.”
