#INDYREF2

EU nationals will not have the right to vote in a future independence referendum if it takes places after Brexit, economists have suggested. @jingsmonty said: “Think we all saw this coming – our valued EU citizens in Scotland (we all were, technically...) were bullied into voting ‘No’ in 2014, told that a ‘No’ vote would lead to Scotland being outwith EU & losing freedom of movement...hmmmm! Wonder how they’d vote in indyref2...?” @Chriscathrine said: “If #indyref2 is held before #Brexit, it is projected that EU nationals could swing the outcome to YES for independent #Scotland. If held during transition period, it’s unlikely EU citizens would have the right to vote, making independence less likely.” @Roguecoder250 said: “Foreign nationals can’t vote in UK elections. EU citizenship grants them effectively the same rights as UK citizens, but those disappear overnight postbrexit. It’s one (very strong) argument for holding #indyref2 before March 29th 2019. There are 147,000 Polish in Scotland.” @Drpaulmiddleton added: “So for #indyref2, we could have the so-called “narrow nationalists” advocating voting rights for EU nationals, and the “broadinclusive better together” shutting them out. But, “All Nationalisms are the same” (apparently!) #brexit”

#SNPDEPUTE

Economy Secretary Keith Brown has declared he will stand to become the next SNP deputy. The Clackmannanshire and Dunblane MSP threw his hat in the ring after high profile MPS Joanna Cherry QC and Tommy Sheppard ruled themselves out of the contest at the weekend. @Stephenshilton wrote: “Great to see @ Keithbrownsnp standing for depute! There’s lots to be done, and he will be able to get people involved and moving...” @hazbobby tweeted: “@ Keithbrownsnp Good on you. Good luck. You have the experience to make your presence felt.” @Cityloon wrote: “Did he decide to run for the position or did his luck simply run out and he drew the short straw? I suspect the latter.” @Scotbrit2014 said: “Interesting and pretty revealing about @thesnp. The entire depute leader contest has been dominated by the fictitious #indyref2”
