Ban live exports

-

Regarding the export of live cattle to the Continent, during the 1960s and 1970s I was employed as a meat inspector with the Edinburgh District Council and in December each year a large sale of Irish cattle was held. I saw at first hand the damage that was caused to the carcasses of these animals on the fairly short crossing of the Irish Sea. The damage was mainly bruising, severe in many cases; fractured limbs were not uncommon.

I can’t understand why the Scottish Government is so opposed to the proposed ban on the export of live animals to the continent of Europe.
