Flower power: Giant spear lily blooms for the first time in six decades at Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh
Horticulturist Simon Allan checks the 16ft flower spike of the Doryanthes palmeri, also known as the giant spear lily, in the Victorian Temperate Palm House at the Royal Botanic Garden in Edinburgh. It is the first time the plant, whose leaves grow in the shape of a sword and which is from eastern Australia, has flowered in 60 years.
