#IWD2018

Yesterday was International Women’s Day, celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievement of women. @businessinsider marvelled: “Nope, don’t adjust your screens. Mcdonald’s is flipping its iconic arches upside down in an unprecedented statement.” @Asteiner tweeted: “Consider this: if women and men played an identical role in labour markets, $28 trillion would be added to the global economy by 2025.” @chrisstyles44 said: “Happy international women’s day to all the women in the word & all the work you do that people don’t see or thank you for, be proud of your muchdeserved day” @ambalfe added: “May we know them, be them and raise them! May we lead them, follow them, nurture, inspire, delight, comfort, laugh and cry with them and most of all, challenge them and us to be the best we all can be.” @Hodl_till_2140 moaned: “I am not against feminism but on one hand women want equality while on other hand they want to celebrate. This isn’t fair, we don’t celebrate international men’s Day with the same enthusiasm by flooding everyone’s time-line & all”

#BUSPASSES

Scotland’s Transport Minister Humza Yousaf has been accused of “freely admitting” a potential shakeup over free bus travel after he raised “concerns” over their long-term sustainability. @Tory_tartan posted: “First they tell you it’s one of the great benefits of living in our great country, now the SNP want to make cuts” @bigwows added: “YES! Cancel this. A ridiculous waste of taxpayers’ money. What’s wrong with concessionary fares?” @sensiblestu said: “Coming from a rural area I am particularly cognisant of the hugely beneficial impact of free bus travel has on the lives of the elderly, however I struggle to see the need for it to extend as far as my fairly well-off, working-age parents.” @Glwpollokclp posted: “Remember when @thesnp accused @scottishlabour of scaremongering when we revealed that free bus passes were under threat by the SNP? Well guess what, Glasgow Pollok SNP MSP @Humzayousaf has let the cat out the bag...”
